Betting Preview: Broncos @ Chargers

Denver Broncos at San Diego Chargers (+1, 48.5)

An AFC West rivalry is set for Monday Night Football as San Diego hosts the Denver Broncos.  San Diego currently has a 1 game lead on the Broncos, the only team that will compete for the AFC West title. The Chargers are 9-3 against the Broncos since quarterback Philip Rivers took the reins in 2007, while Denver quarterback Peyton Manning is 4-5 all-time against San Diego and has lost five of the last six meetings.

The Broncos (2-3/2-3 ATS) are coming off a 31-21 loss to the Patriots.  The final score was not indicative of how the Patriots were at one point dominating the Broncos.  The Broncos desperately need a win tonight to stay relevant and in the AFC West hunt.  Denver will be up against a top 5 rushing defense in San Diego and will need for Willis McGahee to run like he did against the Chargers in last seasons win.

The Chargers (3-2/3-2 ATS) were looking to start the season (4-1) as they went up 24-14 against the win less New Orleans Saints.  The Saints rallied and scored the final 17 points to win last week.  Phillip Rivers has been sacked 14 times and will face two solid pass rushers in Denver’s Von Miller (5 sacks) and Elvis Dumervil (3).

This is a game that Denver needs and while San Diego is a good team, they haven’t really beat any team that has post season expectations (OAK, TENN, KC).  This will be a true test for both teams and we expect a typical AFC West battle.

Current Trends

Favorite is 7-2-2 ATS in their last 11 meetings.
