2014 NBA Draft: Top 5 Centers

Top 5 Centers in 2014 NBA Draft

1.  Joel Embid (7ft/Kansas)

Embid could have been a lock as the #1 overall selection of the Cavs but foot surgery will sideline him for up to a year.  Many scouts believe that Embid has the highest ceiling of any NBA prospect but his draft stock may have taken a hit just like Nerlens Noel last year.  The Sixers may actually take a chance on him at #3 if he falls to them which would be hard to swallow for many Sixers fans seeing back to back top draft picks sitting out their rookie season.

2.  Jusuf Nurkic (6-11/Croatia)

In terms of centers in the 2014 Draft there is Embid and everyone else, it’s a thin center draft.  Another international player that may tempt a team in the later 1st round, early 2nd.

3.  Mitch McGary (6-10/Michigan)

A big bodied center that can bang around but he has many questions marks and character issues.  He didn’t play much this past season due to a back injury but may be worth a shot to a team in the 2nd round.

4.  Patrick Young (6-10/Florida)

Good size and good rebounder but limited offensive ability.

5.  Walter Taveres (7-3/Spain)

You can’t teach 7-3 but he is a very raw prospect.  Only started playing basketball in 2009.  Will need to learn a great deal to compete in the NBA but does show signs of athleticism.
