BJ Upton Signs with Atlanta

Free agent CF BJ Upton has agreed to terms on Wednesday with the Atlanta Braves.  The deal is reported to be worth 5 years $75 million.  Did the Braves over pay for a player that hit just .246 last season?

Many felt the Phillies were the front runner in the BJ sweepstakes this offseason but the Braves emerged as favorites just a little as a few days ago.

The Braves didn’t feel they could resign Michael Bourne who will likely demand more money than Upton.

Upton, 28, hit .246 with 28 homers, 78 RBIs and 31 stolen bases for Tampa Bay last season.

Upton will definitely provide a right handed power surge for the Braves but he has more than 150 strike outs the past 4 seasons.

The Braves will once again contend in the competitive NL East as Upton joins a dynamic young cast of players such as 1st baseman Freddie Freeman, right fielder Jason Heyward, catcher Brian McCann and 2nd baseman Dan Uggla as power hitters.
