Monday Night Football Previews & Predictions
The 2009-10 NFL season has arrived and football fans are blessed with a double header involving the Bills vs. Patriots and San Diego vs. Oakland in the late game. Two games involving division rivals from the AFC East and AFC West are scheduled and with the first game involving inter-division opponents you can be sure these games are important even though it’s the first game of the season.
Bill @ Patriots
There are quite a few story lines involved in this game. Tom Brady’s return, TO joins the Bills to give Trent Edwards a threat at the WR position but will history repeat itself with Owens? While TO gives the Bills an offensive threat they are without 1,000 yard rusher Marshawn Lynch who is suspended through the end of September. Will the Bills who usually play the Patriots tough be able to hang with Tom Brady? The Bills lost the Patriots twice last season and only scored 10 points combined in the 2 games. With that said, you can expect it to be tight through half but the talent level of the Patriots is superior to the Bills and giving the home atmosphere in NE and a Monday Night national TV audience, the Patriots should be able to handle the Bills with ease.
Line: Bodog has the line listed as Patriots -11 and the Over/Under at 47.5.
San Diego Charges @ Oakland Raiders
The Chargers head to Oakland to face their rival in the second game of the night. The Chargers are seen by many to win the AFC West as all division rivals are “rebuilding”. Oakland has won just 24 games the past 6 seasons since losing to Tampa Bay in the Super Bowl in 2002. Oakland’s defense has been respectable over the past years but their offense has given very little to help them win games. The Chargers run game should go off with LT and Darren Sproles, considering the Raiders have been some what weak against the run in recent years. The Chargers have some offensive weapons that could provide some match up challenges for the Raiders. After all the Chargers put up 62 points in their first 2 meetings with Oakland in 2008 both resulting in wins.
Lines: Bodog has the line listed at SD -10 and the Over/Under 42.5.
