Brett’s A Jet!

Finally the Brett Favre saga can come to an end. I believe I speak for everyone except maybe for those in Green Bay, Tampa Bay and New York that we are tired of hearing about Brett Favre! I have so much respect for Favre and what he accomplished in the NFL with the Green Bay Packers but for some reason the last few years I have grown sick and tired of the media attention he gets while he decides his future. If Brett doesn’t guarantee he will be in NY for two seasons then we are all in for this again next summer.

Last season the NY Jets finished 4-12 in the AFC East and had constant QB controversy of their own between Chad Pennington and Kellen Clemens. We all know there are passes on the field that Pennington simply can’t make; his arm is not strong enough. This will surely be a more confident offense but does Favre have the weapons he needs and does this trade even make the Jets a contender? We surely don’t think so considering at best they will come in 2nd in their division barring no serious injuries with the Pats. This means they would have to secure the Wild Card spot in order to reach the playoffs. Let’s not get ahead of ourselves people; the AFC is staked. We will list just a few 2008 NFL Playoff contenders: New England, Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Indianapolis, Jacksonville, Tennessee and San Diego. With a total of 6 playoff slots available (4 Division winners, 2 Wild Card) and eight potential playoff caliber teams the Jets chances are not good.

Although Brett Favre certainly will put bodies in seats at the Meadowlands as well as on the road, he doesn’t put the Jets over the hump to becoming a true playoff caliber team. He currently has two WR’s in Jerricho Cotchery and Lavernues Coles that would be 2nd team at best on most squads and we’re not even sure his offensive line will be able to protect him? Either way it’s tough to speculate before a single snap or play has been called but will Brett Favre fade out of the spotlight and tarnish his once glistening career or will he rebound with vengeance and rub it in Green Bay’s face?

I am so sick and tired of hearing about Brett Favre and where or what he will do. Face the facts, he is one good hit away from going down in flames. The Jets are a 8-8 team at best unless some serious things happen in the AFC this year. The only thing Brett Favre does for the Jets is bring excitement back to the Meadowlands. I mean, the Jets are even second place in their own city!
