2010 NBA All Star Game

Well football has finally come to an end and all of us will soon be counting down the days for next season.  For now we lean on basketball as the 2010 NBA All Star game starters were released recently.  The NBA All Star game can be an offensive highlight reel consisting of insane dunks by some of the world’s greatest athletes.  The athletic ability  is without question; however, the process of selecting the All Star rosters may raise some brow.

There are some familiar faces such as Lebron James, Kobe Bryant, Dwyane Wade, Steve Nash and Tim Duncan to name a few.  However, when you look to the starting roster of the Eastern Conference you may be surprised to see one name in particular, Allen Iverson.  Now some how AI has enough fans across the world to have voted him into the starting line up neglecting to realize he started just 3 games for Memphis and 22 games for Philly.

We have to agree with Charles Barkley and feel he should decline the start.  He could easily say I would love to play in the game but I don’t feel I should start and give the nod to someone more deserving like Joe Johnson.  This is part of the problem with strictly fan voting and no regulation by the NBA.  There certainly should be some type of regulation from the NBA to make sure the deserving players from that season are put on the roster.

Now Allen Iverson is a legend and first ballot Hall of Fame prospect.  At one point in the season he was out of work because no team wanted to sign him due to his demands to start.  At one point there was no team interested in taking him on or felt he would improve their club.  Ultimately the Sixers needed him since Lou Williams got hurt and wanted him to retire a Sixer.  It was the right thing to do but in this season he is not worthy of an All Star bid.

If this ends up being Allen Iverson’s last season than perhaps it will be worth it for his fans.  He is one of the greats and changed the game and ushered in a “new look” NBA.  He was the first to bring in the hip hop culture to the NBA and opened the world up to a new generation.  AI brought the tats, the head band, corn rows and pound for pound one of the toughest players around.  AI you’re a legend but move over to the newest generation of Rondo, Wade, Derrick Rose and Joe Johnson.

Definately! AI does not deserve to start. My boy Derrick Rose should be starting next to Rondo.

  2. Digler Says:

Yea for those AI fans we can understand and let this slide. Only because we get the sense the Sixers won’t renew his contract, therefore forcing him into retirement. Doubt any other team would pick him up unless he comes off the bench mid year. Not sure AI will do that since he has pride and would probably bow out. Next stop Springfield, Mass!

  3. Wilson Says:

As much as I enjoy voting for my favorite players, AI does not belong in the starting lineup. He really isn’t even the best player on his terrible team which makes it even more of a disgrace.
