Will Sabathia make an impact with the Brewers?
As of Monday morning, C.C. Sabathia is officially a Brewer. The reigning Cy Young Award winner was traded to Milwaukee for four prospects. Sabathia and Ben Sheets are both eligible for free agency after the season so it’s quite evident that the Brewers are attempting to make a run for the post-season this year. Milwaukee sent left fielder Matt LaPorta, pitchers Rob Bryson and Zach Johnson and a player to be named later.
Sheets is off to the best start of his career (10-2, 2.77 ERA) and by bringing in Sabathia this will definitely provide possibly the best 1, 2 pitching combo in the NL, but does this make the Brewers a contender? Milwaukee is currently 3.5 back of the Cubs and will be slugging it out till the end with St. Louis and Chicago. We all still feel that Chicago is a better team and St. Louis has been overachieving all season so this certainly helps the Brewers chances to be in contention towards the end of the season and perhaps be in contention for a wild card birth. However, C.C. Sabathia has yet to really make his presence felt in October. The DocCappers still feel that the Brewers need some help in the bullpen if they are really going to “go for it” this season. Despite their 49-39 record, the Brewers are not a great team. Their offense is slightly above average and they give up about as many runs as they score. We all know how the Cubs have traditionally found ways to lose towards the end of the season; however, they are still the favorite to win the NL Central. In the end the Brewers will make a run for it but are no match in a best of 5 or best of 7 series IF they even make the playoffs. This trade is good for excitement in Milwaukee but the Brewers will lose both Sheets and Sabathia to free agency in the off season. Sorry Milwaukee but your team will come up lame again.

This solidifies that the Brewers are for real! You guys can hate all you want but we now have a solid rotation and with a little luck the Cubs will stumble once again!!!
