The Not So Amazing Mets

As bad as the Washington Nationals have been over recent years the New York Mets play has been just as pathetic as the Nats.  In fact the Mets have the second highest payroll in baseball this year only trailing the Yankees, go figure.  The Mets were viewed by many, once again, to come out on top in the NL East.  An NL East division that is also shared by the defending World Champion Philadelphia Phillies.  The Mets are currently 11 games under .500 and have a DL list that truly makes up a team in itself: Johan Santana, David Wright, Alex Cora, Jonathon Niese, Fernando Nieve, Carlos Beltran, John Maine, JJ Putz, Ramon Martinez, Jose Reyes and Carlos Delgado.  On top of all the injuries the Mets announced today they traded Billy Wagner to the Red Sox for two players to be named.  Wagner came back quicker than expected from surgery and rehab and was not happy about being a set up man to Francisco Rodriguez.  I don’t blame him for waiving his no trade clause to get out of hell.

The Mets have been the laughing stock of the league with a blooper reel dedicated solely to Mets errors or foul plays throughout their miserable season.  Their depth chart has been limited to only 1 player at some positions barring no more injuries.

The Mets have been nothing but a disappointment and have choked the last two seasons in September and failed to make the playoffs.  The Mets fans will be spared disbelief this season as there are no playoff hopes of late season runs towards the World Series.  Good luck Mets fans; it will be a long off-season or a short transition to watching the Giants?
