EagleBank Bowl Odds - December 29, 2009

The Temple Owls will be making their first bowl appearance in 30 years when they travel to DC to take on UCLA.  In 2005 Temple was kicked out of the Big East for being a door mat and went 0-11 in 2005.  Al Golden came along and turned the Temple program around and quite ironic he will face UCLA in the EagleBank Bowl, considering he was passed over by UCLA for Rick Neuheisel.

UCLA had an up and down year going 6-6 overall and just 3-6 in the Pac10.  UCLA opened with three straight wins only to lose the next five.  UCLA had 2 three game win streaks to account for their six wins.  A team that has four All-Americans virtually backed their way into a bowl game.  The Bruins have been held to under 20 points six times with their freshman QB under center.

UCLA has won its last 5 bowl games with the last over Northwestern in 2005.  UCLA and Temple have never met on the football field, considering both schools are known for their basketball programs.  The game starts at 4:30pm EST on ESPN.

Congrats to the Owls for playing a great game. I know they didn’t win but they played really well for a team that hasn’t been in a bowl since 79′. If it wasn’t for the ice and the great job UCLA did in the second half on defense I would be celebrating a victory. Either way I’m proud of them!
