Preview: ACC/Big Ten Challenge - College Basketball Odds & Predictions

If there is one thing to be thankful for in college basketball is the scheduling of top programs competing early in the season.  The ACC - Big Ten Challenge started Monday with Penn State edging out Virginia 69-66.  The ACC leads the all time series with a 10-0 record.  The only Big Ten team to manage a winning record is Michigan State going 5-4 and Duke from the ACC is a perfect 10-0.  Since the inception of the Challenge, a total of 9 teams from these two conferences have gone on to play in the Final Four, with 2000 national champion Michigan State, 2001 national champion Duke, 2002 national champion Maryland, and 2005 and 2009 national champion North Carolina among them.  The 2009 ACC/Big Ten Challenge schedule is listed below.

  • Tuesday
  • 7 - Wake Forest at Purdue (ESPN) - Purdue favored by 10
  • 7 - Northwestern at NC State (ESPNU) - NC State favored by 5.5
  • 7:30 - Maryland at Indiana (ESPN2) - Maryland favored by 4
  • 9 - Michigan St. at UNC (ESPN) - UNC favored by 2.5
  • 9:30 - Virginia Tech at Iowa (ESPN2) - Virginia Tech favored by 2
  • Wednesday
  • 7:15 - Illinois at Clemson (ESPN)
  • 7:15 - Minnesota at Miami (ESPNU)
  • 7:30 - BC at Michigan (ESPN2)
  • 9:15 - Duke at Wisconsin (ESPN)
  • 9:30 - Florida St. at Ohio St. (ESPN2)

Look for some great matchups these next couple of days.  And even though the ACC is favored in every game Tuesday, that doesn’t mean there aren’t the possibilities of upsets.  Look for Iowa to be tough at home and it should be a barn burner in UNC but Michigan State is looking for revenge.
