Predicting the #1 Seeds for the NCAA Tournament
It’s safe to say that when you think of #1 seeds in this year NCAAB Tournament there are three solid teams worthy of a #1 seed. Here are the Documented Handicappers projected #1 seeds:
Syracuse Region
Kentucky - The Wildcats secured their #1 seed after beating Florida. Kentucky has been a dominant force from the beginning of the season. With their only two losses coming from SEC rivals South Carolina and Tennessee, the Wildcats boast two of the top players in college basketball. DeMarcus Cousins and John Wall have been the talk of college basketball and the resurgence of Kentucky basketball. While both superstars are freshman, this could be their first and last NCAA Tournament.
Salt Lake City Region
Syracuse - Although the Orange lost to Louisville on Saturday, it wasn’t a loss that booted them from the #1 seed. In fact, Syracuse was the underdog considering it was the last game in Freedom Hall for Louisville and let’s face it, the ‘Cuse had to lose a road game at some point. No team wants to lose their last regular season game but it’s important that they don’t lose focus with the upcoming Big East Tournament. They enter the Big East tourney a #1 seed after winning the Big East regular season title. Syracuse could be the most well rounded team in the NCAA tournament and after being battle tested in the Big East, no team should want to draw the Orange this year. Syracuse is our odds on favorite in this year’s tournament.
Houston Region
Duke - The Blue Devils are currently ranked #4 overall and their win against UNC on Saturday night might have helped them clinch a #1 seed. They enter the ACC tournament the favorite but anything could happen in these conference tourneys. The ACC had a down year overall but the competition is still fierce enough to give the Blue Devils some valuable experience heading into the NCAA Tournament. Duke still needs to watch out for Maryland in the ACC tournament and their #1 seed is not set in stone.
St. Louis Region
Kansas - The Jayhawks are currently #1 in all of the land. They made a win against a tough Missouri team look easy. While the Jayhawks have only one player in Sherron Collins that has Final Four experience, their depth is what could take them all the way. Kansas hopes to avoid any pitfalls in the Big 12 tournament. Cole Aldrich presents many challenges for opposing teams as a big man with range and post up skills. With Brady Morningstar coming off the bench the Jayhawks surely could overcome their lack of experience in this years NCAA Tournament since there is really no true favorite above all.
